The special chocolate alternative THIC® in the new Krunchy Low Sugar (No) Choco

In our new Krunchy Low Sugar (No) Choco, we are relying on a particularly exciting, vegan alternative to chocolate – organic quality, of course: THIC™ ("This Isn't Chocolate") from the Danish startup Endless Food Co.

What's behind it?
THIC was developed by Max, Matt, and Christian, who come from the Danish haute cuisine. With the motto "Keep the pleasure, reduce the impact," years ago they made it their mission to create new and exciting dishes from by-products left over during preparation in professional kitchens – a prime example of upcycling. With their passion for circular food, they have created a sustainable alternative that not only tastes like chocolate but also conserves resources.

Natural organic ingredients – clever use
THIC consists of carefully selected, plant-based organic ingredients such as wild-harvested shea and illipe butter. Additionally, there's barley spent grain flour (a valuable by-product of beer production) and cocoa husks (from a Danish chocolate manufacturer) – two valuable raw materials that are given a new purpose through upcycling. All organic!

THIC is produced and conched like traditional chocolate – just with alternative ingredients. This creates a delicious, more sustainable chocolate alternative that harnesses the taste and value potential of often-overlooked resources.

Low Sugar – High Taste
Since THIC has a low sugar content, we could finally realize our wish: a Low Sugar Krunchy with chocolate flavor. As you know from our low-sugar range: low sugar, high taste.

Climate-friendly indulgence
According to an independent life cycle assessment (LCA - environmental evaluation of the THIC product) commissioned by Endless Food, THIC has an 84% smaller CO₂ footprint than conventional dark chocolate. Per kilogram, only 1.24 kg CO₂ equivalents are produced ("cradle to gate"). For comparison: dark chocolate causes an average of around 7.86 kg CO₂ (source: den store KLIMADATABASE).

One reason for the excellent balance: barley spent grain flour and cocoa husks only travel about 50 km to THIC production. The organic beet sugar from Denmark and Sweden also has short transport routes, averaging 108 km.

Our conclusion
THIC is not only a delicious but also a significantly more sustainable alternative for all chocolate lovers. We are proud to be the first food company in Germany to work with this innovative product – and thus to be able to offer you a low-sugar, chocolatey Krunchy.
