"I sow with hope and reap with thanks"
The Funk-Hof was bought by Helga Deliano's great-grandfather Johann Schuhbauer in 1910 and is still family-owned today. Helga decided to switch to organic in 2014 and has been part of the Naturland cultivation association ever since.
To make the change, she attended a number of courses in order to acquire all the knowledge needed to bring herself, nature and the animals into harmony. There she also met a colleague of Barnhouse's and a great partnership between Helga and us had already developed. Helga is still one of our suppliers today and supplies us with oats and spelt every year.
On the approx. 30 hectare farm, which she runs full-time, she also grows peas, wheat, clover grass/lucerne in addition to the grain for Barnhouse. You can also find potatoes. However, these and the vegetables from the garden are only intended for the extended family.
“My flower strips and Raine give me particular pleasure. This variety of colors is breathtaking and fascinating. Animals such as hares, pheasants, red kites, green woodpeckers, great spotted woodpeckers, swallows, barn owls, falcons, larks, lapwings, sparrows and more show me that the 'world' is okay here,” Helga explains to us.
“With a 'nature-oriented farmer', as I prefer to call myself (instead of organic), the fields are more colorful because of the cornflowers, poppies, chamomile and thistle. These weeds provide a habitat for many animals.”
Privately, Helga keeps several chickens, four cats, two horses and recently two geese, which she was able to save from the oven.
In addition to arable farming, our partner farmer has built up a second mainstay with rental. Her life partner Claas Brunkhorst also supports her in all of her work.
"He fixes and maintains the machines and drives the Bulldog like a champ," she tells us.
Helga appreciates the partnership with Barnhouse - just like we do. “Partners need each other to produce good products and that is only possible together. The look into the future is always there, as are the discussions and understanding. The partnership is characterized by appreciation and respect. The holistic view is always in the foreground. In addition, there are always great festivals and activities where information and ideas are exchanged" .
