Alexander & Leonhard Martl
„Work that is fun is not a burden and keeps us fit at the same time“
Alexander Martl will soon take over the Gröbner Bioland-Hof from his parents. The managing director of a company, which carries out planning and services in the area of enviromental protection and nature conservation, will then lead this in the secondary acquisition. Until then, his father Leonhard still runs the farm. The farm has been owned by the Martl family since 1944, and from 1950 to 1990 dairy farming was still carried out there. Now the family business is concentrating on agriculture. In addition to brewing barley for the Steiner brewery, oats, spelt and wheat are also grown. But also Barley, Pea as well as potatoes and other vegetables can be found on the yard of the Martls. Around the property is a clustered garden, in which also the 50 chickens of the family can walk around. The eggs, as well as potatoes, fruits and vegetables can be bought at a sales stand directly at the farm.
The conversion to bio took place in 2014. Since then, Leonhard and his family have been members of the Bioland-Association.
“We have always attached great importance to healthy and natural foods. In 2014 I retired at the age of 62 and since then we have been practicing organic farming with great enthusiasm. On the one hand simply because of the high quality and the unique taste of our self-produced food, on the other hand the work in and with nature and the sustainable management of our fields makes us very happy”, Leonhard explains.
His son Alexander adds: “We would like to leave a healthy soil for our future generations, which is why the many manual work also brings joy.”
Collaboration with Barnhouse since 2019
„We have only been a supplier since 2019 and therefore have little experience with Barnhouse. We appreciate the reliability at Barnhouse and the regional proximity. It is particularly pleasing that our grain is processed at Barnhouse into such high-quality food.“
